Let the Sabbatical Commence....

I never really understood the whole point of a blog, and even now as I am typing this I still don't know if I really get it. Nonetheless, I decided to go ahead and give in because one of the first things people ask me when I tell them that I will be traveling for the next 6 months is if I am going to have a blog documenting my trips. After I gave it a little bit of thought, I realized its going to be the best way for me to stay in touch with people as I go between my different destinations.

According to Websters Dictionary a sabbatical is defined as: (n) a break or change from a normal routine. Lots of people have critiqued my use of the word-- why not hiatus, adventure, or maybe even excursion. All of those are valid words to describe what I am doing, but to be completely honest I just really like the word sabbatical. It sounds worldy/intellectual, and I like the way it rolls of the tongue.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to travel. My senior year of college I thought about taking a year off after graduation and traveling the world, but the thing about traveling is you have to have money and like any other college student I didn't have the funds. So I set off into the "real world", got a sales job, and moved to Nashville. After doing sales for the past two years, I have had my fill of coporate America and have decided to hopefully go back to school starting in the summer/fall. Since I will have the next couple of months free, I figure this is as good a time as any for me to finally travel.

I have packed my belongings, put them in storage, and in two short weeks l will finally depart on my first trip. I have booked most of my international trips and will continue to plan as the months move along. I don't really have a set intinerary, just a list of places I want to go and the faith that somehow I will manage to get there. The world is my oyster and I am excited about my adventure.
